Hej, I’m Pia

I am so glad you are here.

Danish Design Space began with something deeply personal: my lifelong connection to Scandinavian design and a desire to share the work of independent Danish makers with others who appreciate thoughtful design.

I believe a home does not need to be perfect. It simply needs to feel like yours. That is why I choose objects not only for how they look, but for how naturally they can become part of daily life. A vase for a few garden stems. A cup that feels good in your hands. A candleholder that changes the atmosphere when evening arrives.

Our story

Growing up in Copenhagen, I developed an early appreciation for simplicity, useful design and the subtle beauty of well made objects. These values stayed with me and continued to shape the way I thought about spaces, materials and daily life.

Later, while working for a Danish furniture and design company in Tokyo, I saw how thoughtful design could transform not only a room, but the way people felt within it. It showed me that good design could cross cultures while still feeling personal and relevant.

After moving with my family to Toronto, the idea of creating a place devoted to Danish design slowly began to take shape.

I returned to Denmark to visit independent makers and step inside their studios and workshops. I chose pieces that reflected the values I had grown up with: honesty, quality and respect for materials. Many of these collections were difficult to find outside Scandinavia, and I wanted to introduce them to others who would value the care and intention behind them.

In 2016, that idea became Danish Design Space.

What began as a personal passion has grown into a small and carefully considered collection of ceramics, glass, tableware, candles and objects for the home. Each piece is chosen because it offers something lasting, whether through its form, the feeling of its material or the way it becomes part of an everyday ritual.

One of the greatest joys has been connecting with customers who share this appreciation. Every order, kind email and handwritten note has helped shape Danish Design Space. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has welcomed these pieces into their homes and become part of the boutique’s story.

What guides me

I am drawn to objects with a sense of restraint and character. Pieces where form, material and function feel naturally connected, and where the hand of the maker is still present.

I look for things that can be used and enjoyed often, mixed with what you already own and appreciated beyond a single season. Nothing needs to match perfectly. It simply needs to feel at home.

I select every piece personally and keep the collection here in Toronto. Each order is prepared with care for its journey to you. If you have a question about colour, scale or how pieces might work together, I am always happy to help.

I hope the pieces you discover become part of your home and bring you joy for many years to come.

Warmly,

Pia
